WE RUN A PRACTICAL PROGRAM. ITS NOT JUST HEAD KNOWLEDGE
A Physical Therapy working program works because it's practical
Our program is not just head knowledge, life is full of pressure and the need to perform under pressure. Our working programs naturally simulate real-life confrontation type scenarios, whereby our residents can learn how to deal with life’s pressures within a controlled, safe environment, with people who care and want the best for them.
Whether the resident is dealing with their daily responsibilities or they have been raised up into a leadership position and is giving instructions, one thing you can be sure of - like in everyday life, stress will be there. It's how we cope with stress that makes us a success or not. We believe it is better for the recovering addict to learn how to cope with life's stresses within the facility as opposed to the hostile world . Simply put when we, as recovering addicts are faced with stress, we go and use drugs rather than face life's normal day-to-day stresses.
Our residents are encouraged to take part in the various working teams at the centre, such as maintenance, woodwork, ground work, garden work, kitchen and house cleaning teams. This promotes responsibility and most importantly leadership.
In other words our working program is like a practice field.
Leadership in everyday life plays plays an important role
Our everyday relationships – such as who you interact with, can be improved if you show leadership skills that enable you to “take charge” and encourage a positive outcome from your point of view, while still maintaining good relationships with other people.
We cannot keep what we have unless we give it away
The word Servant and leader has always been thought of as being poles apart, as Christ followers we understand the importance of serving first, putting others first - this behavior is out of character for a otherwise selfish drug addict, and so the process starts to re-introduce new behaviors.
Serving builds character, and helps develop skill sets that are so desperately needed particularly in the life of a broken individual.
Healing a broken spirit
The healing of relationships and ones own spirit is a powerful force for transformation and re-integration into society. One of the great strengths of servant leadership is the potential for HEALINGone’s self and one’s relationship to others. By serving others and putting others first we ourselves are raised up.
Most recovering addicts have broken spirits and have suffered from a host of emotional hurts and disappointments. Servant-leadership helps one recognise that they have an opportunity to help repair broken relationships and most importantly their own spirit.
A Christ Centred 12 step Recovery Program for any Hurt, Hang-up, or Habit.
Celebrate Recovery is a biblical and balanced program that helps us overcome our hurts, hang-ups,
and habits. It is based on the actual words of Jesus rather than psychological theory.
The Twelve Steps And Their Biblical Comparisons
1. We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors, that our
lives had become unmanageable.
2. We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3. We made a decision to turn our wills and our lives over to the care of God.
4. We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
5. We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
6. We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
7. We humbly asked Him to remove all our shortcomings.
8. We made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.
9. We made direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10. We continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.
11. We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and power to carry that out.
12. Having had a spiritual experience as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to
others and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
Truth About Drugs
Truth about drugs is educational material freely distributed by - The Foundation for a Drug-Free World. This is a nonprofit public benefit corporation that empowers youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free.
No one, especially a young person, likes to be lectured about what he or she can or cannot do. Thus, we provide the facts that empower youth to choose not to take drugs in the first place. Additionally our Truth About Drugs campaign consists of activities that they can join which popularize drug-free living. These activities are simple, effective and can involve people of all ages.
These materials and activities have helped people around the world learn about the destructive side effects of drugs and thereby make the decision for themselves to not use them.
Walking With Winners Recovery program
At Walking With Winners, we believe recovery is a choice and when a person is motivated to make correct choices, as opposed to being forced, the correct decision is often the first decision and correct decisions and choices are what recovery from drug addiction and alcoholism is all about.
The Walking With Winners Primary treatment facility is a restricted environment where addicted persons are removed from society while being treated for drug or alcohol abuse. The residents are involved in a daily program called “Physical Therapy” which includes garden work, kitchen work, house cleaning, keeping the rooms clean, general maintenance and upkeep of the facility and grounds. The centre’s daily program is as follows: Wake up at 06:00 and because routine is vital, ablutions must be completed by 06:30.. Breakfast is at 07:30 followed by a Bible Devotion at 09:00. Devotion is normally completed by 10:00 at which time residents have a break and continue the morning with the Christian based recovery program Celebrate Recovery.
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays begin as above and are then followed by lunch after which the residents are required to work, either on projects such as the vegetable garden, gardening, woodwork, mechanics or painting. Work is completed by 16:00 during summer and residents have free time until supper at 17:30. After supper residents can choose how to use their free time – either with their recovery work or a cell group or even praise and worship band practice. Outdoor sports activities are also a part of the program on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Full program details are available on request.
